FILM
The Little Theatre is a not-for-profit cultural arts organization showing an exclusive mix of American Independent and Foreign Films. With five theatres that screen a variety of films reflecting diverse social, topical, political and cultural narratives, our selections are “outside the big box cinema.” Here’s what’s playing now!
CAFÉ
In addition to film, we house a distinctive café that features soups, salads, quiche, sandwiches, daily specials and vegetarian options. There is also an outstanding selection of desserts, coffee/espresso drinks, wine and beer. Stop over to meet with friends and family, have a bite to eat, listen to music, view work by local artists and discuss films. The café is open to anyone, whether they view a film or not.
We offer free, live music in the café on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-9:30 and Friday and Saturday from 8:30-10:30. Our sounds range from jazz to blues to acoustic—and they sound great in our relaxed acoustically-pleasing space.
Each month, we showcase a local artist in some of the most sought-after gallery space in town.
First-rate catering and service, digital equipment and unique settings make The Little the perfect site for your next event. Whether business or pleasure, we can accommodate many different types of events, including all-day seminars, fundraisers, client and employee recognition, student screenings, wedding and travel videos, emerging filmmaker premieres, birthday and anniversary parties. Our 70-seat café adjacent to Little 2-5 provides the perfect place for breakfast, lunch or social events. All five theatres and the café are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and some select evenings. For events from 20 to 300... we're the perfect place for unforgettable gatherings. HISTORY
The original theatre opened in 1929 as an alternative to the large commercial movie houses of the day. The distinctive style of the theatre has earned it a place on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1993, after consulting with the founders of the largest chain of art theatres in the United States it was decided to once again expand. In 1994, two screens were constructed in a former collision shop adjacent to Little 2-3. At the same time a café was added in yet another building adjacent to Little 4-5. In 1996 Little 2-3 were re-seated and upgraded. The end result was a modern complex of five screens seating 940, all with stereo sound and comfortable seating as well as a 70-seat café featuring live jazz and presenting the work of local artists. In addition, the theatre is also a home to the The Little Foreign Film Festival, The Jewish Film Festival, The High Falls Film Festival and The Image Out Film Festival.
